Hi there daniel i am desperate to find some help for my best friend, she has a 2 and a half year old son with special needs, she has asked everywhere she can think of for help but has had no luck.
Every where she has tried are only willing to help her if she was a single mum or on benefits, surely there must be some where that could help her? she lives in the wibsey area of bradford west yorkshire, unfortunatly i am at a loss and donot know where to start looking for help for her as my own children are not special needs, could you please advise of any help or benefits she may be entitled to
yours sincerely stacey

If members can also list any details they have including address and telephone number it will help others.

Respite care provides a series of pre-planned short term placements of a particular child with the same carer. The length and timing of the arrangements can vary according to the specific needs of the child and their family.

The 1989 Children Act provides a clear legislative framework for the provision of short-term care. The Act requires children to be consulted about their needs and about the services to be provided and if a child is using "respite care", the local authority's Social Services must draw up a care plan, visit the child from time to time and review the placements on a regular basis. Whichever agency is providing the short-term care, it should always be part of an integrated and co-ordinated approach to meeting the child's needs.

Respite care can be arranged on a one off or a regular basis. It can also be arranged for short periods of time (such as a few hours) or for longer stays of a week or more. Respite care is usually arranged on a planned basis, but it may be arranged quickly in an emergency situation.

Primarily, the respite care provides day care for children, which could involve providing respite for just mornings, afternoons, after school or at times over the weekend. On occasions, where appropriate, respite carers can be asked to have the child for overnight stays. There are instances when respite carers can be asked to provide longer terms of care. This would be subject to their availability, approval and providing that this does not exceed a period of four weeks.

i am not sure if there is a minimum age limit in your area as far as i can remember with matt it was over 5 for respite in stoke. respite has nothing to do with whether you are married or single the only single playgroups i know off are gingerbread (if they still around) it might be worth looking to see if there is a surestart in your area
http://childrenscentresfinder.direct.gov.uk/townchildrenscentre/Wibsey/West%20Yorkshire/?d=1&Criteria=1&WidgetId=131&searchstring=wibsey&pagetype=townchildrenscentre
as they may have more info in what is available for under 5's. respite also depends on the disability, for health related disabilites its usually done through community nurse where any other disability is social services respite
the link below gives information on the respite centres near you that your friend could contact for information

There comes a point in your life when you realize:Who matters,Who never did,Who won't anymore...And who always will..
So, don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it to your future.

hi daniel, im not sure as she is at a low place at the moment, i can certainly try tho, if she feels there is some one other than me trying to help it may lift her spirits as she has had that many knock backs and rejections when she has asked for help
